Services
Preventative Health Care and Wellness
At Poynette Veterinary Care we strongly believe that preventative health care is the key to a long and healthy life for your pet. We work with our clients to customize an individual health care plan with the goal of preventing disease and recognizing problems early in order to address them most successfully. We utilize complete and thorough examinations every 6 to 12 months, as well as preventative health screening by offering affordable blood chemistries, complete blood counts, fecal evaluations and tick disease screening.
Internal Medicine and Urgent/Emergency Care
The doctors and staff of PVC are dedicated to providing the highest quality care when your pet is sick or injured. We have made a commitment to treat and care for our patients as if they were our own. To that end, an important part of our practice is the diagnosis and treatment of diseases that can affect your pet’s internal organs and body systems. Our experienced veterinarians, supported by our advanced in house diagnostic capabilities, have expertise in diagnosing and treating complex internal medicine and surgical cases such as gastro-intestinal, kidney, heart, respiratory, immune-mediated and endocrine disease.
Surgical Services
We are proud to offer safe and affordable elective surgeries (spays, neuters, etc..) in a warm, friendly and comfortable environment. We provide complete pre-surgical evaluations and pain management packages customized to our patients and their procedure/needs. In addition, our experienced doctors and staff offer an array of non-routine soft tissue surgeries as well as orthopedic surgical options - including emergency procedures, cruciate ligament repairs, and mass removals to name a few. Our advanced anesthetic monitors and sevoflorane gas anesthetics help to make our anesthesia as safe as possible - just as we would want for our own pets!
Dentistry
Routine and preventive dental care is vital to your pet's long-term health. Pets with poor oral hygiene develop periodontal disease, which often leads to heart, lung, and kidney disease. PVC is equipped with state-of-the-art oral surgical equipment and the latest technology to provide your pet with a safe and efficient dental cleaning procedure. We offer a full range of dental services for cats and dogs including dental examinations, extractions, and oral surgery as well as home care instructions, products, and chews to keep your pet’s teeth and mouth clean and healthy.
On Site Laboratory Services
Our in-house laboratory is fully equipped to allow us to offer an array of point-of-care testing within minutes – including Complete Blood Counts (CBC), Chemistry panels, Electrolytes, Urinalysis, and Pancreatic screening. In addition, we offer routine health tests such as internal parasite screens, cytology, fine needle aspirates, infectious disease screening, and skin scrapings. We know that laboratory testing is a cornerstone of preventative health care, illness detection, and assessing anesthetic risks - we want these services to be readily available and affordable to our clients.
Digital Radiography (x-rays)
We offer state-of-the-art Digital Radiography which provides x-ray images without the use of conventional film. This allows for the highest-quality images, while providing the lowest possible exposure of radiation to your pet. In addition, these digital images can be computer enhanced, allowing our veterinarians to see fine detail and subtle changes. Digital images can also be easily emailed–allowing seamless consultations with specialists as needed.
Ultrasound Imaging and Echocardiograms (heart assessment)
We are so proud to be one of the only hospitals in the area to offer complete IN HOUSE ultrasound exams and echocardiograms – rather than referral elsewhere. Ultrasound is a very important diagnostic tool that allows us to get an extremely detailed view of your pet’s internal organs without surgery or other invasive procedures. We can quickly and efficiently evaluate the significance of any abnormal bloodwork, screen for underlying diseases or problems, preform ultrasound-guided needle aspirates of organs and/or masses, and evaluate heart function and heart murmur significance
Laser Therapy
We utilize our in-house laser therapy whenever possible! Laser Therapy is the use of specific wavelengths of light to create therapeutic effects. These effects include improved healing time, pain reduction, increased circulation and decreased swelling. This therapy provides our patients a non-invasive, pain-free way to treat a variety of conditions and is used in conjunction with existing treatment protocols. Our laser therapy patients exhibit increased energy and freedom of movement, decreased inflammation, swelling, muscle spasms, stiffness, and pain. Numerous studies show that Laser Therapy can help with arthritis, joint pain, wound healing, post-surgical recovery and chronic pain.
Nutritional Counseling and Premium Pet Foods
Just like humans, our pet’s diet directly affects their overall health and well- being. Now, more than ever, research supports the difference proper nutrition can make in the lives of our pets – NUTRITION IS THERAPY! We offer a full line of premium maintenance foods and treats as well as prescription diets (Science Diet, Purina, and Royal Canin) to address specific medical concerns, needs, and tastes. We aim to provide tailored nutritional recommendations for our patients in order to help them obtain optimal health naturally.
